September 25–27, 2026 | Camp Au Sable
What makes a good life? In a world that constantly pulls us in a hundred different directions, it is easy to believe that happiness is found in doing more, achieving more, or having more. But Scripture points us to something far more meaningful: a life centered on God and strengthened by the relationships He has given us.
The Family First Retreat at beautiful Camp Au Sable, held September 25–27, offered families of all ages and stages a precious opportunity to step away from the hectic pace of everyday life and rediscover what matters most. Through encouraging messages by the Conways, families were reminded that the foundation of a truly good life is a close relationship with God and meaningful connections with one another. Their humorous glimpses into family life brought moments of laughter, while their practical insights left families encouraged and equipped with ways to grow closer to one another and to God.
The theme verse captured this beautifully:
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” — Micah 6:8
The weekend was filled with opportunities to put these principles into practice. Families ventured out on a morning nature walk to explore the beauty of God’s creation. They discovered new ways to bless others through a hands-on Balloon Ministry craft, enjoyed wagon rides, explored the Nature Center, and learned about Michigan’s fascinating wildlife. Family Night brought plenty of laughter and fun as everyone enjoyed a lively game of human foosball, delicious kettle corn, and warm drinks. After helping clean up camp on Sunday morning, families gathered for an inspiring devotional by the Conways before heading outside to enjoy activities such as go-karting, horseback trail rides, and canoeing.
Families also had the opportunity to complete the Family Challenge and earn a three-month subscription to WindowSeat, an app filled with inspiring audio stories, including Your Story Hour and Bible in Living Sound. This special gift will help families continue growing together spiritually long after the weekend has ended.
Yet, beyond the activities, the laughter, and the beautiful surroundings, the greatest blessing was the time spent together. Families prayed together, learned together, and strengthened the relationships that matter most. In a world that so often competes for our attention, the retreat offered a beautiful reminder that our most important work begins at home—in the hearts of those God has entrusted to our care.
As families returned home, may they carry with them more than wonderful memories. May they choose daily to put God first, extend mercy, pursue what is right, and walk humbly with Him. May our homes become places where faith flourishes, love grows deeper, and every family member is encouraged to know and follow Jesus.
After all, the good life isn’t found in having a perfect family, but in inviting a perfect Savior to lead our imperfect families closer to Him and to one another. Plan to join us next year, the last weekend of September!
