Boots, Blessings & Bandannas: A Weekend to Remember
Boots, bandannas, laughter, and heartfelt prayer filled Camp Au Sable as mothers and daughters gathered for the annual Mother-Daughter Retreat, themed “Boots, Blessings & Bandannas.” The weekend offered an opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday life and spend intentional time together while growing closer to God.
From the beginning, the retreat was filled with energy and joy. Mothers and daughters created colorful crafts, participated in western-themed rodeo games, and climbed aboard hay wagons for rides around camp. Guitar-led singing added to the experience as participants enjoyed the beauty of Camp Au Sable and the opportunity to simply be together.
While the activities brought plenty of laughter, they also created space for something deeper. Throughout the weekend, mothers and daughters had opportunities to talk, connect, and make memories away from the distractions and responsibilities of home. Whether working together on a craft, cheering one another on during a game, or sharing a quiet conversation, each activity provided another opportunity to strengthen the special bond between mothers and daughters.
The spiritual messages woven throughout the retreat brought the weekend’s focus back to Christ. Speaker Karla Largent encouraged participants through Scripture to slow down, quiet their hearts, and spend time in God’s presence. One simple challenge especially resonated throughout the weekend: to “turn our frustrations into prayers.”
It was a reminder that prayer does not have to be reserved for peaceful or perfect moments. Instead, the frustrations, worries, and challenges of everyday life can become invitations to turn toward God and trust Him more deeply.
One of the most meaningful moments of the retreat came when mothers and daughters were invited to pray together. Side by side, they brought their prayers before God—strengthening not only their relationships with one another, but also their relationship with Jesus.
The weekend reflected the words of Joshua 24:15: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” More than simply a weekend away, “Boots, Blessings & Bandannas” gave mothers and daughters an opportunity to intentionally invest in their relationships, encourage one another in faith, and remember the importance of keeping Christ at the center of their homes.
As participants left Camp Au Sable and returned to everyday life, they carried with them more than crafts, photos, and memories of western games and hayrides. They carried reminders to slow down, pray through life’s frustrations, treasure the relationships God has given them, and continue growing together in Him.
The laughter may have faded from the campgrounds, but the blessings of the weekend will remain in the hearts of mothers and daughters for years to come.
