Letting Go of Worldly Things

I come from a long line of those suffering from depression. I was hopeless and found myself between suicide, pills, homeless, junk food fighting cancer, and having to deal with growing up in a broken home. I knew of God. I wanted God, but it was always in the context of a worldly relationship. One day, I saw an ad for plant-based cooking at a Seventh-day Adventist church in Lansing. Following how to cook was Bible Studies and I remember thinking, "Wow, have I gotten this low, that Jesus had to lure me in with food to study his Bible?" (Take note I did not believe that the Bible was translated correctly and refused to read it prior). After 6 weeks of faithfully coming to the cooking sessions, I started to have racing thoughts that weren't my own. So, in the last attempt for salvation, I sat down quietly at church when the pastor spoke of a intense 10-day program. The program worked with those suffering from depression, but had just ended, so he connected me with a doctor who told me of a health program. At the time I had just shattered my phone and was without one and the program had just started. She told me I had to make a choice: join the Revive Clinic or have a phone. So I prayed. I felt I needed a phone for connection, but I needed mental and physical help. I was exhausted all the time. Doctors were leaving me to die and shaming me. Their only solution was throwing pills at me, and I'm only 26. So I gave up my phone. That weekend, i got enough money to pay for both the health programs and my phone! The program changed my life, I lost 1 shirt size, found happiness, found my faith, and most importantly, found my health again. This program is why I'm here at church for the first time and also why I'm going from a wheelchair and 12 different pills--including 4 pain meds--to only 4! I'm also now vegan and looking to homestead and live a simple life. I'm now letting go of worldly things for the grace of God.
