Michigan Conference Executive Committee Reaches Decision on Village Church Leadership

On February 11, after prayerful deliberation, the Michigan Conference Executive Committee voted to uphold its December decision regarding Village Church leadership.

After much prayer and deliberation, the Michigan Conference Executive Committee voted 13–2 at its February 11 meeting to uphold its previous decision to bring Village Church pastor Ron Kelly’s employment to a close.

While the Conference is limited in what it can share publicly regarding personnel matters, this action follows the decision announced in December to place Pastor Kelly on administrative leave. Before making that decision, the Executive Committee gave Pastor Kelly an opportunity to meet with them and make his case for continued employment.

Yesterday’s vote, conducted by secret ballot, reflects the committee members’ shared understanding that there were too many breaches over too long a period to warrant Pastor Kelly’s reinstatement.

These decisions are always painful and difficult. However, the committee’s decision—and the entire process—was conducted carefully and prayerfully, with committee members actively seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

These have been challenging weeks, but we are assured that God has remained with all of us. It’s important to remember that there are not two sides—we are all on God’s side.

The Michigan Conference family wishes the best for Pastor Ron Kelly, his wife, Collene, and their family as they seek God’s guidance for new opportunities. We also ask all members of the Michigan Conference family to uplift the Kellys in prayer, along with the children of God who call the Village Church their home. God is urgently calling us to finish His work, and we can only achieve this when every heart and mind in the greater Adventist family is fully focused and committed to completing this mission.
