An ice storm that struck Northern Michigan on March 29 left tens of thousands without power, with some residents still in the dark more than a week later. Falling trees and ice-laden branches forced road closures across the region.
The Michigan Conference Disaster Response, led by director Chelli Ringstaff, mobilized quickly—delivering 55 personal care kits to a shelter at E Free Church in Gaylord, where approximately 75 people were staying. Ringstaff, along with Dr. Kim Azelton, also served as emotional and spiritual support counselors for those impacted.
Ringstaff further coordinated with Camp Au Sable, which opened its facilities for hot meals and showers. Bailey Glenn who oversees Hospitality at Camp Au Sable, shared that 35–40 people came for dinner and showers, with many saying it was their first shower in three to four days.
